The South Midwood Pollinators' first Green Team First Saturdays was a smashing success!

Here's some of the accomplishments:
75 pounds of litter collected, which filled 2 trash cans (90 gallons total)
2 big bags of recyclables (filling a 20 gallon can)
Small downed branches collected for City composting
Dog deterrents restrung on tree guards where needed
One Yucca, one Liriope and a dozen daffodils salvaged from tree pit with downed tree and replanted in another tree bed
2 new volunteers from the apartment building on Foster between E 21 and E22 joined our group and are eager to to volunteer with SMP

Thanks to CB 14 and NYC Parks for facilitating the removal of a large, fallen branch from one of the tree pits before this Saturday's cleanup. Most of all, thanks to our wonderful volunteers: Alenya Becker, Alex Ross, Kim Platt, Marjorie Henning, Mario Malcom, Molly and Noa Theobold, Natasha Amott, Trixie Eckert-Chu and Vinit Parmar, who joined me.

Green Team First Saturdays is a new initiative for the Pollinators designed to support the ongoing greening of our beautiful neighborhood. On the first Saturday of the month we will gather from 9 to 11 am to address a specific need, with a little time afterward for coffee and conversation. The project might be working on our Foster Avenue project or tending to Glenwood Malls or street trees in the neighborhood. Everyone is welcome to join us. Sign up here for our April 4 Green Team Saturday. If there's a specific project you want to see in the neighborhood, leave a comment below.
