Despite our first working day of hot weather, our June Green Team got it done! The team met on June 6th to focus on planting, watering and clean-up of tree beds for a couple blocks on Foster Avenue. This work was done by 11 volunteers who donated 22 hours of their time to accomplish the following:

  • Plant 32 donated blooming sweet alyssum plants in four tree beds

  • Water all the tree beds on Foster Ave between Ocean Ave and E 22nd

  • Weed and Chelsea chop asters in all tree beds

  • Install 7 stake signs communicating messages about the importance of nature and community in English, Spanish and Creole

  • Install an anti-rat spike mat strategy in one tree bed as a test

Thanks again to Alice Bernstein for hosting another delicious coffee  hour and to our special guest, eco journalist Lisa Ising, for photographs.
