South Midwood Pollinators founder and board president Virginia Levie was honored by Community Board 14 at the annual CB14 Service Award Ceremony on Thursday, October 30. The event annually recognizes volunteers and individuals for their hard work and dedication to our community.

Shawn Alyse Campbell, District Manager, introduced Virginia with a reminder that the work of the Pollinators is critical because our neighborhoods--Flatbush, Midwood, Kensington, and Ocean Parkway—are the poorest city park neighborhoods in metropolitan New York City.
Virginia thanked CB14 and eloquently stated that New York City’s problems of housing, food security, and water are present in Nature and that just as “we need Nature, Nature needs us.”
Other honorees included Ohel a transformative social services and mental health services program, for thousands of individuals through housing and day programs for people with developmental and psychiatric disabilities; the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the New York City Department of Sanitation, and NYPD Precinct 70.
